What’s So Special About Penguin NW Tasmania?

Penguin is the perfect place to make your base for a few days while you explore the beautiful North West of Tasmania.

Penguin is the quintessential quaint seaside village that is so rare to find. Perfectly nestled between its own beautiful beaches and the Dial Ranges as its backdrop if has all that you need to be comfortable – banks, shops, cafes, petrol station, pharmacy, butcher, newsagent, hairdressers, two IGA stores, own fruit and vegetable shop (and they have organic as well), Visitor Centre and more.

Penguin is equidistant from Ulverstone and Burnie, and you can take the beautiful coastal road (Penguin Road to Ulverstone and Preservation Drive to Burnie) and be there in under 20 minutes.

Devonport is just 25 minutes away and Launceston under 90 minutes.

Then you can take the stunningly beautiful coastal drive North West to Stanley and be there in about an hour and 20 minutes, and stop off at places like Boat Harbour and Rocky Cape on the way.

Then take the Tarkine loop drive.

Visit Arthur River and the End of the World.

It’s under 2 hours to drive from Penguin to Cradle Mountain for a day trip and there are also a number of great bush walks that start nearby into the Dial Ranges.
